PCSX2 has incredible savestate functionality (F1 save, F3 load). It’s tempting to never use the in-game "Save to Memory Card" option.
Use the in-game Memory Card save as your primary backup. Use save states only as a "quick save" feature between checkpoints, but always back up your progress to the virtual memory card periodically.
