The NDDN-W57 and NDDN-W58 are DVD-based navigation systems. Unlike modern units that use internal hard drives or SD cards for the OS, these models require the map disc to "boot up" the system software.

When power is lost, the head unit resets to a "Please insert correct map disc" screen, often displaying Japanese characters. Without the boot disc (or map disc containing the boot file), the following features are typically disabled: JustAnswer Audio & Multimedia : FM/AM radio, CD/DVD playback, and auxiliary inputs. If you do not have the original disc, you can often create one by downloading the specific software for your model.
