The original Sinister ended with Ellison Oswalt (Ethan Hawke) becoming the final victim of Bughuul, the “eater of children’s souls.” Its power lay in the unsolved mystery: was Bughuul real, or a projection of a narcissistic writer’s obsession? Sinister 2 , directed by Ciaran Foy, opens with a different proposition: the monster is definitively real.
