The story follows Satyendra "Sattu" Mishra (Rajkummar Rao), a clerk in the excise department, and Aarti Shukla (Kriti Kharbanda), an aspiring IAS officer. They meet through an arranged marriage proposal and genuinely fall in love. However, on their wedding night, Aarti discovers that her prospective in-laws will not allow her to work after marriage. Faced with this ultimatum, she chooses her career and runs away, leading to a dramatic shift in both their lives.
