The Korg Krome relies on an internal MicroSD card (not the external one you use for saving patches). Over time, this card can become corrupted or fail physically, leading to "Loading Application Failed" messages. Restoring the image file to a new MicroSD card is the primary fix for these issues. Without this image, a corrupted internal storage is often a death sentence for a Krome.

The Krome EX has expanded PCM memory and a different partition table. Using the wrong image will permanently damage the flash memory layout. Always match your exact model (look at the sticker under the keyboard).

Simply placing the .img file on a USB stick usually is not enough. The Korg Krome requires a specific boot procedure to recognize the image:
