Finally, the 2021 project is a warning to publishers. When you refuse to make your back catalog accessible, the fans will do it for you—and they will do it better, for free, and with more love. Nintendo’s eventual 2023 release of GoldenEye on Switch and Xbox was a direct response to the 1964 Edition’s popularity. It featured widescreen, stable framerate, and modern controls. But it also introduced input lag on Switch and removed the original’s cheat menu. The fan version remains superior.
