Blood Diamond (2006) is an intense political action-thriller directed by Edward Zwick, set during Sierra Leone’s civil war in the late 1990s. The story follows Solomon Vandy (Djimon Hounsou), a fisherman whose life is shattered when rebels abduct him and force him to work in diamond mines; Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio), a conflicted mercenary and smuggler hunting a rare pink diamond that could change his fortune; and Maddy Bowen (Jennifer Connelly), an investigative journalist exposing the link between conflict diamonds and global markets. The film combines high-stakes action with a human drama that explores the ethical cost of the diamond trade, war profiteering, and the struggle for survival and redemption.
Set in 1999 Sierra Leone, the narrative follows Solomon Vandy (Hounsou), a Mende fisherman enslaved by rebels to harvest diamonds. While mining, he discovers a massive pink diamond and hides it before being captured by government troops.
